Traditional vafler, Norwegian Waffles

In Norway, waffles are served as dessert. This is an old recipe which is much crispier than the recipes Norwegians use today. Serve with butter and brown cheese, strawberries and sour cream!


  • 1/2 l Cream
  • 1/4 l Kefir (or buttermilk)
  • 1/4 l Water
  • 400 g Flour
  • 1 ts Salt
  • 35 g Sugar


  1. Preheat the waffle iron.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the flour with the water, salt, sugar and kefir (or buttermilk) until well blended.
  3. Make whipped cream of the cream and add this to the mixture.
  4. Grease your waffle iron with butter. Then pour batter on the waffle iron and cook until its light brown.
